On the corner of Torenstraat and De Waart opposite the AH car park, a new apartment building - titled Opwaarts - has been built. The residential building consists of four storeys on Torenstraat and three storeys on De Waart.
The new residential building, a WoonST project, provides space for 35 social rental flats, all with two bedrooms and suitable for one or two people, in all age classes. One parking space in the enclosed courtyard is available for each flat.

De Waart
For several years we have been working with the municipality to refurbish neighbourhood De Waart. All rental houses have now been renovated on the inside and provided with new window frames or new paintwork on the outside. Over the next few years, a lot of hard work will go into building new homes, refurbishing the public space and connecting residents.
Nieuwbouw Torenstraat-De Waart
On 29 September 2022, the go-ahead for construction was given by BAM Wonen, the Municipality of Helmond and Woonpartners. The keys were handed over in early July 2023 and the 35 social rental flats were completed.
WoonST homes
The new-build project is a WoonST project. In 2021, the 13 housing corporations and 9 municipalities from the Stedelijk Gebied Eindhoven (SGE) joined forces and created a joint plan for a *standardised social housing: WoonST. The aim: lower construction costs and a faster permit and building process. Together, build more affordable, sustainable and social housing for tenants and reduce the tightness of the housing market. The 35 social flats are WoonST homes.
* Standardised housing does not mean that all homes are the same, but that we work from a base where variations are possible.
Mixed living
This residential building lends itself in terms of housing type and scale to the concept of mixed living in Helmond. This means that residents from social care and regular tenants have a home in the Opwaarts residential building. You can read more about this in the magazine Thuisbasis.
